Quite possibly the most favoured colour is black and red, however many colour combinations are available and are all worth giving trying. On a personal note,if I had to choose one,it would be black and red.Size's can vary from size 18 up to size 8. Sizes 10 or 12 are possibly the most popular and on curved hooks. Bloodworms are the larval stage of the buzzer .Again there are many patterns to choose from.Good patterns are the gold headed variety,or the flexifloss type. Both should be fished deep and almost static, just creeping them back as slowly as possible. Again if there is a breeze, they can be allowed to be pulled along, provided it is not too quick. There is no reason not to try a flexi floss bloodworm on the point and buzzers above it,the bigger gold head types should be fished as a single fly. With regard to leader lengths and strength, fish as long a leader as you can handle, bearing in mind, droppers will cause tangles. Always fish the heaviest fly on the point and graduate to the lightest on the top dropper. Distances between droppers would probably be in the region of 2.5 to 3 feet apart but can be varied to suit your needs.Just remember if using a 9 foot rod, then problems may arise if using long leaders with well spaced droppers, when it comes to landing fish.If decent fish are known to be present,at least 6lb B/S should be used, some advocate no less than 8lb. Certainly those smash takes can take you unaware and will easily break your leader,so be alert at all times. I have only been fishing this method seriously for just over a year .previously I was 'not convinced' by the method, and in truth struggled. It is now my favorite method of trout fishing.Try it-enjoy it.
