Carp

Common / Mirror / Leather Carp
The carp is properly the most popular sporting fish in this country. There are a few varieties that the angler can encounter which are common carp, mirror carp and leather carp.
Carp are present in most waters around the country and they do well in all sorts of waters from rivers to lakes. The most popular carp fishing venues are still waters, reservoirs and gravel pits.
Carp live near over hanging / marginal trees, beds of lilies, rushes or reeds. Carp also like beds of silt were bloodworm can be found and they also feed along gravel bars in pits. If they can be reached by casting margins around islands are well worth a try particularly if they are over grown. It is also worth baiting up a margin swim as big carp often come in to hover up any old boilies or bait that has been thrown in once you have finished your fishing session.
As well as being a bottom feeder carp will also feed of the top of the lake's surface where they will take a variety of floating baits. There are various different carp rigs you can try for bottom feeding carp, but make sure that the lead system you are using is carp safe, so that if you do get snapped up the fish is not swimming around with the hook and weight still attached.

Crucian Carp
The crucian carp is a lot smaller then the other types of carp found in most waters, With the way today's fishing has gone with goldfish being stocked in some ponds its not known weather a true crucian has been caught or weather they are a crucian / common hybrids or even brown colour goldfish. One of the only ways to tell if it is a fake crucian is by the tails as with fake crucian's the tails are forked were with a true crucian the tail is more rounded.
Crucian carp like to feed over slity bottom lakes and near bank side reeds and rushes.
When fishing for the crucians the tackle set up should be very light float or feeder gear, they do not like any resistance even a small short on the lift method set up can cause them to reject the bait. If you are float fishing for them always plumb to the exact depth of the lake.
